YORK – Five York city officials were formally chosen to serve for the next four years during Tuesday’s General Election. York Mayor Barry Redfern was reelected. The mayor ran unopposed and received 2,988 votes. There were 101 write-in votes.
Redfern served as a city council member from 1996 until 2019 when he became mayor. In 2020 he was reelected as mayor. There were four names on the ballot for York City Council with four seats up for election – those of Jerry Wilkinson, Jennifer Sheppard, Tony North and Jeff McGregor. Wilkinson, Sheppard and North are currently council members and were reelected on Tuesday. McGregor will be a new member of the council. The following are the total votes each candidate received: Wilkinson, 2,427; Sheppard, 2,310; North, 2,383; and McGregor, 2,199. There were 65 write-in votes. The mayor and city council members will take the oath of office in December, as they start the four-year terms. Meanwhile, in Henderson, Corbin Tessman was reelected as mayor, running unopposed and receiving 536 votes. And Kevin Friesen was elected as city councilman, running unopposed and receiving 555 votes.
