York County Election results: York School District patrons vote in favor of $39.5 million bond issue11/6/2024
YORK – The majority of voters living in the York School District have said yes to a $39.5 million bond issue which will exponentially expand the size of the York Elementary School. A total of 2,255 voters said yes to the bond issue, compared to 1,862 votes against.
The plan is to add 17 classrooms, more teacher collaboration space, restrooms, expand the cafeteria/kitchen area and add activity space. It will also allow for all the preschool students to be in one location rather than three as it is now. It will also provide for the renovation of the front entrance to enhance security and revamp the parking/drop-off areas to improve traffic flow. The cost to taxpayers will be a preliminary levy of 11.8 cents over 25 years – based on current valuations. If valuations greatly increase in the future, the levy will be adjusted accordingly, as explained earlier by school officials. Regarding the preschool, this new addition, as said earlier, will allow for all three sites to be consolidated into one – at the elementary school – and more students will able to be served. Right now, the district “can serve 75 students in our preschool program,” as explained earlier by school officials. “We have been full for the past few years in our preschool program and over the course of the school year, we have had a wait list with as many as 15 to 20 students. We are only able to accept 15 students into our all-day preschool classroom and we have to place the rest of 4-year-old students into half-day programs.” This addition at the elementary school will remedy those issues. As mentioned earlier, the expansion will vastly improve the number of available restrooms – right now, there are times when 40-60 kids are in line waiting to use the restroom. And currently, all the teachers and faculty members share just one small bathroom. This project will result in multiple restroom spaces. And it will result in a much expanded and more efficient kitchen/cafeteria facility/space. Comments are closed.
