YORK — The York County Historical Association is proud to announce its reorganization and the appointment of a newly structured board of directors as part of its renewed commitment to preserving and promoting the rich history of York County, Nebraska. Founded in 1967, the York County Historical Association has served as a vital steward of local history, dedicated to the preservation, research, and interpretation of materials and stories that define the county's cultural and historical identity.
The historical association is a separate entity not under the umbrella of the county, although the county owns the building where the collection is housed. The historical association is also a taxing entity, having the ability to set a property tax levy of its own, although that hasn’t happened in several years. As part of its revitalization, the association has elected a new leadership team and board to guide its future direction. Amy Pohl will serve as chairman, with Jenni Harrington as vice chairman. The executive team also includes Tristan Perry as treasurer and Becky Stodieck as secretary. Joining the executive officers on the board of directors are Jared Pack and Andy Bowman. In addition, seven community members will serve in at-large roles to bring broader representation and support to the organization’s efforts: Nancy Beach, Janine Kirkegaard, Mark Miller, Gary Olson, Carolyn Sandall, Clay Stodieck and Pat Wagner. “This reorganization marks an exciting new chapter for the association,” said Pohl. “With a passionate and diverse leadership team, we are looking forward to expanding our programs, engaging more members of the community, and ensuring the stories of York County are preserved for generations to come.” The association invites community members, local historians, educators and history enthusiasts to get involved as it begins this new era of growth and engagement.
