YORK COUNTY – Local officials recognized Dispatch Appreciation Week, last week, which is a national effort to show appreciation to 911 communications officers. The York County Commissioners officially noted the designation.
York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier noted how the city and county share the entity which is the York County 911 Communications Center. This center was created, as a large addition to the York County Courthouse, several years ago. Prior to this project, the York County Sheriff’s Department and the York Police Department had their own, separate dispatch centers. This project combined those efforts, in a large, technologically-complex center. The state-of-the-art communications/dispatch center is impressive on the inside as dispatchers watch numerous screens, access many forms of communication while orchestrating first response to all types of emergencies. Hundreds of people walk by this area of the courthouse each day and likely have no idea the work being done inside. “This designation brings attention to the very valuable work they do,” Obermier said. “I would encourage all the county board members to stop in and see what they do as it is quite incredible. They are a very valuable part of our community.” The York County 911 Communications Center is manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The agency has a list of core values which exemplify their dedication: Self-care: Care for and preserve your well-being. Train: See every day as an opportunity to better yourself. Assertive: Show confidence and be decisive when call-taking and radio-dispatching. Yes-minded: Answer every need for help. Guidance: Wear many hats, take on the role of counselor, teacher and coach. Objective: Remain unbiased and impartial regardless of personal beliefs or ideas. Listen: Exhibit good comprehension, sympathy and attention. Diligence: Give careful and persistent effort to ensure safety and avoid harm. Comments are closed.
