YORK – Many York County officials and staff members will be attending the annual year-end convention of the Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) next week. During this past week’s committee report, York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier told his fellow board members how the keynote speaker is supposed to be Governor Jim Pillen.
“This could be quite interesting, as he has been talking about the ‘great success’ of the BEAD program to expand internet fiber through the state, but as we know, hardly any of that money is being used for internet/fiber expansion and he wants to use the majority of that money for other things. So, for the governor to be addressing all the county officials in the state, that should be interesting.” During his committee reports, Obermier noted how the fire sprinkler system project in the jail is well over halfway done but it is currently being held up. “The plan is for it to be done sometime in January.” He also said, as a member of the Four Corners Health Department Board, he participated in a recent meeting. He noted how increased federal funding might be coming down to the rural health departments, which could greatly increase the Four Corners budget and workload. Commissioner Daniel Grotz said he attended a recent board meeting for the York County Development Corporation as well as a village board meeting in McCool Junction. “And Andy (Commissioner Bowman) and I have spent some considerable time with the roads department in the last two weeks.” Commissioner LeRoy Ott said he attended board meetings for Region V and APACE. And Commissioner Joe Burgess said he participated in a virtual meeting of the board for the Southeast Nebraska Development District, during which new bylaws were adopted. Comments are closed.
