YORK -- For the second year in a row, the York County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit was fortunate to host Nebraska Police Service Dog Program Administrator Mike Kerby at one of their training sessions. Kerby, a current staff instructor at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center, is an internationally recognized instructor and highly respected trainer of police service dogs. Kerby has been around police service dogs for so long he actually trained dogs with Sheriff Paul Vrbka back in the late 1980s and early 1990s when York County had just started its K9 program.
Kerby evaluated the YSO dogs in the areas of narcotics detection and obedience along with auditing departmental policies and procedures in regard to police service dogs to ensure the department is operating in accordance with currently accepted practices. "Hosting Kerby is something our K9 Unit looks forward to every year," YSO K9 handlers said, "and we look forward to having him back in the near future." Comments are closed.
