YORK COUNTY – The sheriff’s office is increasing rural patrol – starting immediately – in response to an escalating rate of thefts. “Our office has seen a recent increase in rural thefts across our area, with items being taken such as copper wire, fuel, farming equipment and other items commonly sold for quick cash,” the YSO said in a statement. “This will not be tolerated.
“Effective immediately, deputies will be increasing patrol presence in rural areas, including in the late-night and early-morning hours. We will be proactively checking roads, properties and suspicious activity. If you are out where you shouldn’t be, expect to be stopped. If you are considering stealing from our community – don’t. You will be identified, investigated and held accountable.” The YSO is asking the public to be proactive also: “Report suspicious vehicles or activity immediately, document serial numbers and mark your property, utilize cameras and lighting when possible, local all doors and windows as well as add security measures to things such as agricultural fuel tanks. “We take these crimes personally,” the YSO says. “Rural residents work hard for what they have and we are committed to protecting it. Our office takes immense pride in protecting our residents and our community.” If someone sees something suspicious, they are encouraged to contact the YSO immediately at 402-362-4927.
