York County Sheriff’s Office participated in “Make It Click” enforcement campaign

​YORK COUNTY – The York County Sheriff’s Office participated in the statewide “Make It Click” overtime traffic enforcement campaign from May 15-31. This initiative focused on increasing seatbelt usage and promoting safe driving behavior across Nebraska roadways.

​According to Sergeant Taylor Samek, “During the campaign period, deputies assigned to the grant made a total of 154 traffic contacts. These enforcement efforts resulted in one arrest for driving under the influence and two drug influence evaluations. Deputies also issued 49 total citations, including 26 for speeding violations.
“Seatbelt enforcement remained a primary focus throughout the campaign. Deputies cited eight drivers for failing to wear a seatbelt, a simple but critical safety measure which significantly reduces the risk of serious injury or death in a crash. Additionally, two drivers were cited for failing to move over for a stopped emergency vehicle, a violation which endangers first responders and roadside workers.
“The York County Sheriff’s Office emphasizes how wearing a seatbelt is one of the easiest and most effective ways to save lives,” Sgt. Samek said. “Deputies encourage all motorists and passengers to buckle up every trip, every time. The YSO remains committed to proactive enforcement and public education efforts to ensure the safety of all who travel through York County.”
