YORK – The York County Sheriff’s Office recently participated in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over traffic safety grant, aimed at reducing impaired driving and increased roadway safety during the holiday season. The grant enforcement period ran from Dec. 11 through Jan. 1. Sgt. Taylor Samek said, “During the grant period, York County deputies made one arrest for driving under the influence of drugs, three misdemeanor arrests, issued 48 traffic citations and made contact with a total of 156 motorists. These enforcement efforts focused on identifying impaired drivers, enforcing traffic laws and promoting safe driving behaviors.
“In addition to the grant-period results, the sheriff’s office reported significant enforcement activity throughout the broader holiday season,” he said. “From Halloween through New Year’s Day, deputies made a total of eight DUI-drug arrests and four DUI-alcohol arrests, underscoring the continued commitment to keeping York County roadways safe during times of increased travel and celebrations. “The York County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that impaired driving puts everyone at risk. Community members are encouraged to be proactive in helping prevent tragedies by reporting suspected impaired drivers.
