YORK COUNTY – The sheriff’s office will be getting some new in-car computers thanks to a grant which will cover 75% of the cost. Sheriff Paul Vrbka and Captain Josh Gillespie met with the York County Commissioners this past week to explain how the funding will work.
For 10 units, the cost will be $41,030. Of that, $30,000 will be covered by the grant secured by the YSO. Captain Gillespie said the YSO has 14 units – they will have the funding to do 10 at this time. “This is a reimbursement grant, so we will have to find a way to pay for them up front,” Gillespie explained. “We will continue to use the four computers that are working fairly well and we will keep the old ones we are taking out of service as back-ups.” “This can’t be supplemented with ARPA funds as this is a federal grant,” added Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier, “and federal grants can’t be matched with other federal money.” “That is correct,” Gillespie said. “My recommendation is to utilize our inheritance funds as we know we have the dollars there and then the grant money will flow back into the inheritance fund to reimburse it,” Obermier said. Gillespie said they try to get five years of life out of these in-car units. All the commissioners voted in favor of purchasing the computers with inheritance funds and then putting the reimbursement money back into the inheritance account. Comments are closed.
