YORK COUNTY -- The York County Sheriff's Office will be participating in the “Drug Impaired Driving Enforcement” mobilization through the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office. This campaign will be taking place from April 18-20 and they will have extra deputies conducting high visibility traffic enforcement on the roadways throughout York County specifically looking for drug impaired drivers. As explained by YSO Sgt. Taylor Samek, “When people think of DUI, it usually conjures up images of drinking and driving; however, drug impaired driving is just as serious. In 2020, 13% of crash fatalities in Nebraska showed the driver tested positive for at least one drug in their system during the time of the crash and that number rose in 2021 to 18%. In 2024, certified Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) throughout Nebraska conducted 483 drug influence evaluations on suspected drug impaired drivers.
“As always, we would like to encourage motorists to report suspected distracted or impaired drivers to the York County Sheriff's Office by calling 402-362-4927.” Comments are closed.
