YORK – The York County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the “Make It Click” mobilization through the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office. This campaign will be taking place over the Thanksgiving holiday travel season from Nov. 26-30. During this time, there will be extra deputies conducting high visibility traffic enforcement on the roadways throughout York County, specifically looking for seat belt or child restraint violations, according to Sergeant Taylor Samek.
“In 2023, Nebraska’s seat belt usage rate was 77%, which is far below the national rate of 90.4%,” Sgt. Samek said. “Out of 50 states, Nebraska ranks 49th nationally when it comes to seat belt usage. During the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2023, there were 309 passenger vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes across the nation and 44% were unrestrained. Let’s ensure this holiday season starts off with everyone making it to the dinner table. Please buckle up and drive safely. “As always, we would like to encourage motorists to report suspected distracted or impaired drivers to the York County Sheriff’s Office by calling 402-362-4927.” Comments are closed.
