YORK – Throughout the years, there have been household hazardous waste collection events in York County – which have proven to very utilized as hundreds of area residents have participated in order to get rid of dangerous chemicals/compounds they no longer need and don’t know how to get rid of otherwise. That will again be the case on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the York landfill, located at 1214 Road 15 on the western edge of York. The items will be accepted between 8 a.m. and noon.
The collection event will be sponsored by the Four Corners Health Department, funded through a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust. All residents of York County are welcome to bring their residential household hazardous waste to the collection site – this event does not include accepting large amounts from businesses. Those who participate are asked to have their items in boxes – paint in one both and other materials in separate boxes. If someone is not sure of what something is, they are asked to keep it away from other materials. Items being accepted include: acids, antifreeze, banned materials like chlordane and DDT, cyanide, yard fertilizers, flammables, oils and gas in small quantities, mercury, paint, stains, varnishes, poisons, pesticides, fluorescent bulbs and lead acid batteries. Items not being accepted at this time include empty or dried out paint cans, tires, farm chemicals, electronics, medical sharps and recyclables. If someone has questions, they can call 402-362-2621 or email [email protected]. Comments are closed.
