​Awards and Recognition

Stay Gold Award
This is a progressive award where an employee can get awarded a “Stay Gold” lapel pin for demonstrating a specific YC911 core value: Self-care, Train, Assertive, Yes-minded, Guidance, Objective, Listen, or Diligence. If accepted, the employee will receive a corresponding letter lapel pin for the value they demonstrated. If an employee collects all core value pins, they will be awarded the YC911 Golden Employee award.

Shift Team Commendation
Awarded to any team of Communications Officers who did an outstanding job during a significantly high-stress and/or high-volume incident and/or timeframe. All members worked professionally, calmly and effectively to successfully manage the incident(s). This award will generally be initiated by the Lead Communications Officer working during the event or Director, and all members receiving the team award will receive the Outstanding Teamwork lapel pin and certificate of achievement by the Director.

YC911 Commendation
Awarded to any member of the Department for exceptional demonstration, understanding and mastery in action of the mission and values of York County 911. The nominated party’s actions shall go beyond that required of the Department member’s duty assignment. The actions shall have demonstrated good judgment and procedures. If accepted, the employee will be awarded the YC911 Commendation plaque by the Director.

Agency Letter of Commendation
Awarded to any member of the Department for exceptional performance of their duty is recognized by a written letter by a member of an outside agency whether that be another PSAP, Police Department, Sheriff’s Department, Fire or EMS agency. A copy of said letter, On the Spot lapel pin and certificate of achievement shall be awarded by the Director and if possible, the member of the outside agency who presented the letter.

Public Relations Award
Awarded to any member of the Department who brings favorable recognition to the department through participation in public relations efforts while representing the Department. The Department member’s actions shall have significantly contributed to bringing favorable public attention to, and recognition of, the Department and the profession. An Outstanding Service lapel pin and certificate of achievement shall be awarded by the Director.

Life Saving Award
The Life Saving Award is given to any member of the Department whose actions significantly contribute to the saving or prolonging of the life of another by providing the appropriate Pre-Arrival Instructions, while adhering to departmental policy. Note: A ‘save’ for this award shall be considered as one in which lifesaving instructions assisted in the patient being resuscitated and their care transferred to a hospital facility for advanced medical treatment. A Life Saver award may be awarded by the Director, a member of the Joint Communications Agency Board, by the involved fire department representative(s), or by the surviving victim via a pre-designated ceremony if one is able to be coordinated.

Life Giving Award
The Life-Giving Award is given to any member of the Department whose actions significantly contribute to childbirth by providing the appropriate Pre Arrival Instructions while adhering to departmental policy. A Stork pin and life-giving award shall be awarded by the Director, a member of the Joint Communications Agency Board, by the involved fire department representative(s), or by the baby’s family via a pre-designated ceremony if one is able to be coordinated. 

Employee of the Year Award
Awarded annually to any member of the Department, recognizing excellence in their entire body of work for the previous year. The nominee shall have consistently demonstrated a positive professional attitude, shall have the respect of their peers, and demonstrate pride and quality in their work. An Employee of the Year award plaque shall be awarded by the Director and Joint Communications Agency Board during National Telecommunicator Week and the recipient’s name shall be added to the permanent plaque displayed in the Department.
