YORK – York County Commissioners Daniel Grotz and Woody Ziegler recently took part in a tour of the York Area Solid Waste Agency, with District 24 Senator Jana Hughes. Also joining them were York City Administrator Sue Crawford, York Public Works Director James Paul, York Landfill Manager Tom Mommens and York County Development Corporation Director Lisa Hurley. The city and county have a joint committee that oversees the landfill, through an interlocal agreement.
“The tour was very informative and quite frankly, eye-opening,” Grotz said. “We saw the new area, the new cell that was most recently opened, and it was quite something to see how much they have already hauled in there in just under three years, already.” The massive new area/cell (see accompanying photo) already has a substantial amount of refuse inside it. To put it to scale, this photo was taken from a great distance. The trucks and equipment in the far-left bottom corner of the photograph are morphed by the giant amount of garbage that has already been hauled in. Senator Hughes requested the tour as her office is doing an interim study on recycling. Comments are closed.
