YORK – York County Sheriff Deputies Gabe Steele and Dylan Nordstrom have successfully completed the department’s field training program.
YORK – The York County Sheriff’s Office recently applied for and received grant funding through the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office’s Special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP).
The York County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging traffic safety during harvest season.
“As harvest season is in full swing, our country roads are busier with farm equipment, grain trucks, and local traffic. Please remember: • Slow down and give yourself extra time on rural routes. • Be patient when sharing the road with farm equipment—many can’t travel at highway speeds. • Watch for turns into fields and driveways, which may come up suddenly. • Stay alert at intersections, as tall crops can block visibility. Your patience and caution help keep our farmers, families and neighbors safe during this busy time of year. Let’s all do our part to ensure everyone makes it home safely this harvest season.” YORK – The York County Sheriff’s Office participated in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign between Aug. 16 and Sept. 1. During this time frame, according to Sgt. Taylor Samek, “extra deputies were out looking for impaired drivers during the Labor Day travel period.

YORK -- This past week, the York County Sheriff’s Office hosted a basic Field Training Officer (FTO) course at York University. This course was not only attended by deputies with the local office but also law enforcement agencies from across Nebraska.
A Field Training Officer, commonly referred to as an FTO, is one of the most important roles at a law enforcement agency. These deputies are tasked with overseeing the training of newly hired deputies and evaluating their daily performance. It’s a role that requires a lot of patience and hard work. Deputy Brandon Huebner and Deputy Deion Hulse successfully completed the course and will now serve as field training officers for the York County Sheriff’s Office. The YSO thanks York University for the use of its facilities to host the training. YORK COUNTY -- The York County Sheriff’s Office is participating in the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign from August 16 to September 1.
During the 2022 Labor Day holiday, there were 490 crash fatalities nationwide. Of those crashes, 39% involved a drunk driver and 25% involved a driver who had a blood alcohol content of almost twice the legal limit. “Our goal is to make sure that everyone makes it to their holiday plans alive,” said Sgt. Taylor Samek. “York County will have extra deputies out looking for impaired drivers on roadways throughout the county. If you are driving in York County and would like to report a reckless or impaired driver, please call 402-362-4927. This overtime enforcement campaign is done in conjunction with funding provided by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.” YORK – The York County Sheriff’s Office participated in the Speeding Prevention Driving Enforcement campaign from July 14-31.
Sgt. Taylor Samek says this campaign was funded by the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office. “During this campaign, deputies assigned to the initiative contacted 164 motorists resulting in the following activity: 32 speeding citations, five reckless driving citations, one DUI/alcohol arrest, one DUI/drug arrest, three felony arrests, three minor in possession of alcohol citations, two open container citations and two failure to move over citations. “As always, please remember to watch your speedometer, wear your seatbelt and drive sober,” Sgt.
