York man flees from sheriff’s deputies with kids in the vehicle

YORK – The York County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a York man this past weekend after he fled from an attempted traffic stop, with children in the vehicle. 

​According to Sgt. Taylor Samek, “on June 8 at approximately 11 p.m., a sergeant with the York County Sheriff’s Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a SUV near the intersection of West 22nd Street and N. Division Avenue, for multiple traffic violations. The SUV driver failed to yield and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. The SUV continued southbound on N. Division Avenue until turning east onto West Seventh Street. The SUV ultimately came to a stop in the 700 Block of North Platte Avenue. The driver, Randy Kermoade, 36, of York was taken into custody without further incident.
“The unfortunate part of this incident was that two minor children were in the rear passenger seat,” Sgt. Samek says. “It was later determined neither child was wearing a seatbelt during the pursuit; however, neither was harmed. One child was returned to a parent and the other was placed in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.”
Sgt. Samek said Kermoade was jailed on the following charges: child abuse, operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest, no proof of insurance, driving under suspension, willful reckless driving, vehicle lighting violation, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, seatbelt violation, stop sign violation, driving left of center, failure to signal and speeding.
