Commissioners to hear details regarding broadband grant

YORK – When the York County Commissioners meet in regular session on Tuesday, Jan. 23, they will meet with representatives from Glenwood Telecommunication regarding a broadband program grant. 

​Last June, the county commissioners gave their full support behind the company’s grant application which could result in high-speed internet access for rural residents in an area near McCool Junction.
As Glenwood representatives said during that summer meeting, their focus is to “provide high speed internet in areas of Nebraska which aren’t served or are underserved.” As different rounds of grants are received, the company’s intent is to continue infrastructure improvements.
That round of grant applications took place and they will again visit the commissioners to provide an update.
Also on Tuesday’s agenda:

• The commissioners will hear a proposal about establishing an employee gym at the courthouse.
• They will be presented with a SE Region interlocal agreement.
• They will discuss and act on the 2024 Local Emergency Operations Plan.
• The annual consideration of Harvey Keim as highway superintendent will take place.
• As the board of equalization, they will consider tax roll corrections presented by the York County Assessor.

The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, which will begin at 8:30 a.m., in the commissioners’ meeting room located on the main floor of the courthouse, next to the clerk’s office.
