Details released about motor vehicle pursuit involving York County Sheriff’s Department

YORK COUNTY – On Feb. 6, deputies with the York County Sheriff’s Department were involved in a high speed pursuit which ended with the driver, a minor, being taken into custody. 

​According to the sheriff’s department, they received a dispatch at 3:49 p.m., from the York County Communications Center upon the report of a stolen vehicle potentially traveling through York County on Interstate 80.
At 3:53 p.m., a YSO deputy located the vehicle, which was traveling westbound on the interstate.
The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the suspect vehicle proceeded to flee to the west.
The vehicle was described as a 2024 Nissan Ultima.
The suspect vehicle proceeded to travel westbound at speeds exceeding 120 miles an hour. At numerous points, the YSO says, “the suspect was observed to drive westbound in the eastbound lanes of traffic and through the median and ditches at high rates of speed. The pursuit ended near Mile Marker 332 when the suspect vehicle struck the rear of a tractor-trailer and became disabled.”
Deputies say the driver was identified but that information will not be released because the driver was a minor.
The driver was transported from the scene by Aurora Fire and Recue to CHI St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island with non-life-threatening injuries.
The sheriff’s department thanked the Nebraska State Patrol, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, the York County Communications and Aurora Fire and Rescue for their assistance.
