YORK – A No True Bill has been returned by a grand jury regarding the death of Justin Christensen while he was being held in the York County Jail, indicating York County was not at fault. Anytime a person dies while in custody or being apprehended, a grand jury must be convened.
The No True Bill says “the grand jury finds there was no criminal conduct on the part of any individual that caused or contributed to the cause of the death of Justin Christensen.” The grand jury does recommend, according to the court document, “additional correctional and dietary staff, inmate access to mental health treatment in a timely manner, the use of flashlights during rounds/inmate cell checks and cameras in the jail.” Christensen, 30, was found dead in his cell in the York County Jail on Sept. 9, 2023.
