Today, April 30, is last day to submit application for District 3 county commissioner seat4/30/2024
YORK -- Today, April 30, is the last day interested persons in District 3 can submit their applications to be considered as the new York County Commissioner for that district. The vacancy was created by the unexpected death of Commissioner Stan Boehr.
The panel of the county clerk, county treasurer and county clerk chooses the replacement, per state statutes. On May 8, starting at 5 p.m., all the applicants will be publicly interviewed by the panel. The panel will then choose the new commissioner and arrangements will be made for that person to be officially sworn in the following morning. That person's first commissioner meeting will be held May 14. An applicant must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. The person must reside in District 3 and be a registered voter with no felony convictions. Interested applicants should send their cover letters and resumes to the York County Clerk’s office at 510 North Lincoln Avenue, York, NE, 68467 or email them to [email protected]. York County Commissioner Chairman Randy Obermier told his fellow county board members, Tuesday morning, "a handful of applicants" have already come forward. Their names will be publicized on Wednesday, May 1, after the deadline has been reached. Whomever is appointed will fulfill the rest of Boehr's four-year term, which is in its second year.
