UNL Extension, county sign agreement to continue relationship

YORK – UNL Extension and York County have agreed to renew their agreement to continue the longstanding relationship the two entities have had. 

Extension officials said the last official written agreement between the two was found to be from 1998, “so it was definitely time to update the language. This is just an updated agreement, this doesn’t change the relationship or financial responsibilities.”
Commissioner Chairman Randy Obemier said Deputy York County Attorney Christopher Johnson reviewed the agreement and had no concerns.
The commissioners agreed to sign it.
Also during this week’s county board meeting:

• During committee reports, Commissioners Woody Ziegler and Stan Boehr reported they attended the Republican rally held in McCool.
• Commissioner Daniel Grotz said the York County Development Corporation would be coming to address the board in the near future regarding a financial contribution as a local match for a housing grant that would be available to the villages in the county. He said YCDC is currently contacting all the towns in the county to see what projects might qualify for that grant money.
• Obermier reported that the county’s budget was turned in to the state, last week.
• Obermier also said the insurance committee met and the county is being offered a minimal rate increase this year. The matter will come before the county board in the near future.
• The board talked about a need to address slow internet speed in the courthouse.
• Obermier reported that he met with board members from the York County Historical Society as nearby probation is needing more room. Obermier said there is “value to what the historical society has there and we need to look at what we can do to help both entities.”
• Commissioner Ziegler said he felt the recent “pink postcard meeting” was a great opportunity to hear from constituents, “and you explained it all so well,” he said to Obermier. “People are more aware now, it’s all about transparency.”
