YORK COUNTY – After nine years of service on the York County Planning and Zoning Committee, Roger Morris has announced his retirement from that position. This week, the York County Commissioners discussed the new vacancy, saying they wanted to thank Morris for his years of service.
With the existence of the vacancy, they will now be searching for a new member to appoint. The planning and zoning committee is an advisory committee for the county board. They consider zoning issues and regulations, and then make recommendations to the county commissioners who make the final decisions. Most recently, the planning and zoning committee’s biggest task has been the writing of new, preliminary zoning regulations pertaining to solar projects in the county. They held numerous public hearings and presented their recommendations to the county board. The commissioners have gone through those recommendations, made some changes and will present their preliminary solar project zoning regulations during a public hearing in mid-June. York County Commissioner Chairman noted how the planning and zoning committee has historically “been a mix of rural members, while yes, we are all members of the county.” The rural membership has been based on the fact the county establishes zoning regulations for the areas of the county which are not within planning jurisdictions of municipalities. If someone is interested in serving and wants to be considered for the position, they can contact one of the five county commissioners – Obermier, Daniel Grotz, Jack Sikes, LeRoy Ott or Andy Bowman.
