YORK – York County property owners are now able to pay their property taxes online. The York County Commissioners wholeheartedly agreed to add this Multi-County Information and Programming Services (MIPS) feature.
MIPS is the technology division of NACO (the Nebraska Association of County Officials), which provides Nebraska counties with custom software, hardware, product support, networking and consulting services. Every county in the state utilizes one or more of MIPS’ products and services. York County became the latest to add the real estate tax payment online. York County Treasurer Megan Williams asked the commissioners for their consideration, because it would provide a great convenience to property owners. MIPS representatives explained to the local commissioners who 73 counties in the state already offer this service through them. “It allows customers to do business with the treasurer’s office 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. They can pay their taxes online, get tax information and history. It allows payments made directly with low fees (paid by the user to the vendor for the credit card processing) and it allows them to pay their taxes in multiple counties with one payment at one time.” The cost to the county is a monthly payment of $149. There are no contracts or set-up fees. Commissioner Daniel Grotz said he appreciated the service, as it has great benefits to those who can’t or don’t have time to come to the courthouse or are in a different location. “I think it will be very helpful and convenient, great for the individual.” They all voted to approve the Nebraska Taxes Online to be utilized in York County.
