YORK – York County Sheriff Paul Vrbka confirmed late Saturday afternoon, May 4, that at approximately 4 p.m., a driver failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of West Fourth Street (also known as Recharge Road) and the Highway 81 bypass, and consequently collided with a sheriff’s deputy who was traveling down Highway 81. Sheriff Vrbka said fortunately the deputy was not seriously injured but the cruiser was “totaled.”
Sheriff Vrbka was not on duty at the time of the accident and said his information is still preliminary. The pickup driven by the other person sustained heavy front-end damage, as seen at the scene. YSO Captain Josh Gillespie confirmed that driver was not seriously injured either. Captain Gillespie was on duty at the time of the accident. The matter is being investigated by the Nebraska State Patrol. As the investigation continues, more information will be published as it becomes available. Comments are closed.
