York County Sheriff’s Department arrests two after finding large amount of meth

​YORK COUNTY – The York County Sheriff’s Department arrested two people after finding a substantial amount of methamphetamine during a traffic stop. 

According to YSO Sergeant Taylor Samek, a deputy with the YSO conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 80 near mile marker 345 for multiple traffic violations. During the course of the traffic stop, the sergeant “developed reasonable suspicion that criminal activity was afoot. The sergeant deployed his police service dog, Justice, on the vehicle, with the canine indicating to the odor of a controlled substance coming from inside the vehicle.”
The sheriff’s department says a search of the vehicle was conducted, during which deputies found two pounds of methamphetamine, several knives and drug paraphernalia.
Sgt. Samek said, “As deputies were continuing their search of the vehicle, one of the occupants slipped out of her handcuffs and began to discard drug paraphernalia located on her person in the patrol unit. The other occupant began to slam his hands repeatedly against the patrol unit window, causing damage. Both occupants were subsequently transported to York County Corrections where they were lodged.”
The driver of the vehicle, Andrew Juarez, 36, of Holdrege, was arrested on the following charges:

• Possession of more than 140 grams of methamphetamine
• Possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony
• No drug tax stamp
• Criminal mischief
• Auxiliary lights violation
• Open container
• Possession of drug paraphernalia

The passenger, Sonia Martinez, 39, of Hastings, was arrested on the following charges:

• Possession of more than 140 grams of methamphetamine
• Possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony
• Possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person
• Tampering with physical evidence
• No drug tax stamp
• Attempted escape
• False reporting
• Carrying a concealed weapon
• Open container
• Possession of drug paraphernalia
