YORK – The York County Sheriff’s Department will again be participating in the “Buckle Up, Every Trip, Every time” mobilization over the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. With the busy holding season approaching, “it’s a great time to remind drivers and passengers to buckle their seat belts,” says York County Sheriff Sergeant Taylor Samek. “In 2022, 129 (67%) of the 193 fatally injured passenger vehicle occupants were not wearing seat belts. Nebraska’s seat belt usage rate is still far below the national rate of 90.7% -- as it was 76% in 2022.”
Sergeant Samek said further, “during the timeframe of Nov. 22-26, the York County Sheriff’s Department will have additional deputies on the road, looking for seatbelt violations. Please remember to buckle up before heading to your holiday destination so everyone can have an enjoyable Thanksgiving. “As always, if you are traveling in York County and would like to report a reckless or suspected impaired driver, please contact our office at 402-362-4927 or call 911 in the case of an emergency,” Sergeant Samek added.
